About P Crabtree and Son

P crabtree & son was founded in 1915 and has since been supplying quality fresh fish and seafood to the people of Halifax. The quality of the produce has always been of paramount importance and very strong links have been forged with suppliers over the years to maintain standards on a week by week basis.

Traceability and provenance of our products are now an important factor to the consumer and we offer a sustainable range to meet these requirements.

We specialise in quality day boat & inshore fish from the port of Looe in Cornwall who have as a fleet signed up to the Responsible Fishing Scheme which ensures that line-caught fish and netted fish are caught in smaller quantities and as such have less impact on the environment than large trawlers.

We source our salmon from Scottish salmon farms where Atlantic salmon are farmed to strict RSPCA welfare standards that govern water quality and stock density to prevent disease and overcrowding.

Our game fish are sourced from a company in Sri Lanka where the fish are line-caught so that only certain species are selected as opposed to net fishing where the fish are corralled and other species such as shark and dolphin are caught unnecessarily.

The fish are then processed in a modern, clean environment and vacuum packed before being flown to the UK 2-3 times a week.

P Crabtree & Son are open Tuesday to Saturday 08:30 to 17:00.
